Be ready to teach the class what you've learned about Lobbyists! Billy Wants a Dog - Introduction to Lobbying "Expertise" an interesting look at the real world of lobbyists in Ottawa How to Become a Lobbyist (American but still relevant) An Erosion of Our Democracy List of Officially Recognized Interest/Lobby Groups Outdated but interesting list of most influential Lobby Groups. Now, answer the questions below: - What stood out to you when watching these videos? - How could you explain what a lobbyist does, to someone in grade 5? Use your own words and use a simplified example to clarify. - Did any of the videos surprise you? - When do you think that Lobbyists would be most influential in the Legislative Process? - Do you think that Lobby Groups are beneficial to Canadian citizens? Explain, in detail! Use real-world examples. As a class we will be reading Shirley Jackson's classic 1948 short story "The Lottery." We will be discussing tradition, change and culture as well as relating the story to our studies of the federal government.
This assignment follows a current news event over several weeks. Students are asked to analyze different types of media, different perspectives and also share their own reflection at the end of the process.
