Math: we started a new unit--Linear Relations--finding patterns among numbers! Using diagrams, tables, expressions, and equations to describe relationships between numbers.
Science: we learned about Mendeleev's important contribution to the development of the Periodic Table (PT), calculated protons, neutrons, electrons, differentiated atomic number from atomic mass, described periods vs groups/families in the PT, learned to locate metals vs nonmetals vs metalloids on the PT and described their properties, learned about the four chemical families (Groups 1, 2, 17, 18) and their properties.

THE HISTORY OF THE ATOM PROJECT
In groups of 2-3, you must demonstrate your knowledge of the history of the atom by using any of the following methods:
Your project must include all the following scientists: Dalton, Thomson, Rutherford and Bohr. Review the following concepts by watching the below: HOMEWORK: Watch the following summary and add to your notes from class History of the Atom Summary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=thnDxFdkzZs Clips from Class Today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSV8sdMJGns Thomson's Cathode Ray Tube Experiments https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nLESblUAHY If after two work periods you're still not finished, please complete the following questions for homework (in the math textbook): page 76: #4, 5, 8, 12, 13, 15, 19, 21 page 84: #4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 11, 14, 19, 20
We've covered all our exponent laws! Yay! :)
Revisit your class notes and ensure you complete the assigned math hw for practice. Here's a website you can use to review the material (ignore negative exponents and fractional exponents for now): https://www.mathsisfun.com/algebra/exponent-laws.html Hand in the following questions for tomorrow: (using science textbook) page 121: #3, 7, 8, 11
General Class UpdatesWelcome Back! This week has been great to start back up and move forward with our new units in math and science. Things that we should know are:
Math UpdatesWe have started our powers and exponents unit and this week we have taken powers of zero, base 10's, negative bases, and the order of operations with exponents. Some things to note/ that we have struggled on are:
Science UpdatesIn science, we have started our matter and chemical change unit. This week this included:
Please visit the link to write the topics 6-8 quiz for space exploration.
When we return in January, we will be starting our Matter and Chemical Change unit and exponent laws and then linear equations in math. Please click the link for the Self and Peer Assessment for our space colonization project.
This coming Thursday we are going to have a quiz in math and on Friday there will be a quiz for science. This will bring our math and science units to an end and send us into the break. Math Quiz: Thursday December 20The revi For our math quiz, we are going to look at:
The Review past exam is also attached as a reference.
Science QuizOur science quiz will cover topics 6,7, and 8 from our unit. This includes the solar system, past space travel, satellites, rockets, the life cycle of a star and technology in space. As a reference, the skeleton notes for the unit are attached and past powerpoints can be found from 2 posts ago.
