Upcoming:
Retest in Math and ScienceI've been telling both 9A and 9E since the beginning of February but it seem like not a lot of parents know about this... If students aren't happy with their math or science unit tests mark, they are welcome to do a retest. To quality for a retest, students need to show me their completed work throughout the unit then we can set a date to do the retest outside of instructional time. Water Quality LabStudents were testing 6 unknown water samples using the nitrate, phosphate, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity tests. Each student was responsible for a test and we combined everyone's test data to complete the observation table on the lab handout. If you weren't here on Thursday when we did the lab, please make sure to grab the completed observation table from students who did the lab. The Inconvenient Truth documentary got pushed back due to the water quality lab.
Composite ObjectThe Surface Area unit is very short. We have 1-2 examples to go through in class on Section 1.4 and the Tin Man project left. Mini quiz on Section 1.1 and 1.2 is on Monday. The unit test is on Wednesday, April 18th. Tin Man ProjectWe started this project today and will continue to work on it in class on Monday/Tuesday. If you haven't bring materials for your tin man, please bring it on Monday! Foil, and a Styrofoam head will be provided.
MathStudents wrote the Polynomials unit test and got their tests back before the break. We are starting the Surface Area unit. So far, we reviewed surface area of a cube, a rectangular prism, a triangular prism, and a cylinder. We revisited Section 1.1 Perfect Squares that was a part of the Polynomials unit. Practice questions will come from the textbook as well as worksheets. Later this week, we will be starting the "Tin Man" project. I will explain the project in class and hand out the project outline, rubric, and reflection. Please start bringing in recyclables such as cardboard boxes to construct your tin man. ScienceEnvironmental Research ProjectStudents started the environmental research project on Tuesday before the break and we are half way through the group presentations. Last week, students continued to work on their group research project and half of the class (9A and 9E) presented at the end week. For students who are presenting on Monday, make sure you complete your peer evaluation form ( if you're in a group of 2 or 3) and have your presentation ready to go. And don't forget to email or share your presentation with me. PPM and Vanier River WorksheetsWe went over these two worksheets that I handed out before the spring break. Students that were away on the BGS field trip, make sure to grab the answers from your peer or come and see me in class. The Lorax Business LetterPlease make sure you hand in your business letter that was due on Friday (9A). 9E will get time to work on the business letter after the research presentations on Monday. 9E wil hand in the assignment to Ms.Ng. Where are we at?In Environmental Chemistry, we have Topic 6: Monitoring Air Quality to cover. This week we will be investigating air quality in Calgary and watch "An Inconvenient Truth" documentary.
