On Friday we are being visited by three of the four candidates who are vying to become City Councillors and represent Ward 3. In preparation for this, the students began to research the platforms, bios, and opinions of each of the candidates. We will continue this research tomorrow. By Friday morning, each student will have to form an opinion on who they would vote for, and why. They will have to have notes on, and a general grasp of, each candidates platform. They will also need to have questions prepared for the candidates. We've recently been discussing the importance of being able to come up with a theme for texts we've read or watched. This is an essential skill to have going forward in your careers as Humanities students. Remember that THEME is the moral or lesson that the author is trying to tell you about life, society, or being a human being. The theme of a text is closely related to the CENTRAL CONFLICT of the text. We also have developed our understanding of what it takes to properly read and digest a short story, as they are such dense and challenging works, chalked full of symbolism.
Now that we've discussed who the main political parties are in Canada, I would like for you to figure out whose beliefs most align with yours.
Below is a link to an online quiz, it took me about 10 minutes to complete. If you do not understand the question, I expect you to define the difficult words in the question, or to click the "Learn More" tab to fully understand before you answer. Please have this ready to discuss on Monday! https://canada.isidewith.com/political-quiz Please watch the news! Keeping up with the world's current issues is a requirement for grade nine Social Studies!Be sure that you know these ten words and their definitions! |
